Why Is My Washing Machine Not Draining?

When a washing machine won’t drain, it usually points to a blockage or mechanical issue. Lint, coins, or small clothing items can clog the drain pump or hose, preventing water from exiting the machine.

A kinked or improperly installed drain hose can also stop drainage. Make sure the hose isn’t bent and is positioned correctly.

Another cause may be a faulty drain pump. If the pump motor is damaged, the washer may hum but fail to remove water.

Some machines will not drain if the door lock is malfunctioning. This safety feature prevents water from draining while the door is unlocked.

Cleaning the drain filter (if your model has one) often resolves minor drainage problems.
